Description

From the legends surrounding Schwurstadt's founding:

Before the name Schwurstadt had a wide repute, it was the surname of Faelin Schwurstadt. Faelin had recently been pushed out of his own village, along with his family, and was facing a life in the huge, dark forest of Waldfläche. In those days, humans treated the forest with fear and superstition, claiming fantastic beasts lived in the woods that guarded it from outsiders and kept its riches to themselves. Humans lived on the brim of the forest instead, hewing trees from the very edge for firewood and weapons. To be sent into the dark woods was considered a death sentence, but Faelin was optimistic all the same. He and his family struck out into the woods with courage. Finding no beasts looking to eat them and an abundance of food that they themselves could use, the Schwurstadts lived a peaceful existence for the first month, erecting a small house.
Faelin began to grow bold and wandered further into the woods, exploring his new territory. In the woods, he found a strange stone arch, under which the forest lord sat. The demigod greeted Faelin amicably and congratulated him on his bravery, but asked for no more of his kind to come into the woods. Faelin agreed, leaving the arch with the forest lord's blessing. But after returning home, Faelin found a dwarven traveler had gotten lost in the woods. A kind family, the Schwurstadts gave the dwarf a place to sleep for the night, pointing him in the direction of their former village in the morning. The dwarf thanked them and went on his way.
As the dwarf walked out of the woods, the people of the village were startled, demanding to know how he had made it through such forbidding woods. The dwarf told the people of the kind family he had met, in particular the man of the house named Faelin. Knowing now that their passed-down stories of great beasts and terrible fates were nothing more than fantasies, the people of the village struck out into the woods in full, hewing trees as they saw fit to build their structures.
The forest lord came to Faelin's house, asking what had happened to so many of his trees in such a short time. Faelin told the forest lord in honesty that he was not aware of the lumberjacks, but the forest lord did not believe him. Honest and courageous Faelin was called a liar and a coward, hiding the truth from a demigod who had welcomed him. Though Faelin was a kind man, but he was quick to anger and was not about to be called such things, so he lifted his hatchet and cleaved the forest lord's head off.
It just so happened that, at this time, the villagers were indeed attacked by a great beast from the woods. A gigantic bear had been awoken by their axes and saws. Feeling grumpy, the bear plowed into the lumberjacks, throwing back every attempt they made to kill it. However Faelin, who had grown curious about the forest lord's words, came upon the scene, spotting the bear. Having planned to show the evidence of his victory to anyone he could have met (most regard Faelin as quite a proud man, too), he instead showed the forest lord's head to the bear. The bear whimpered and turned back to the deeper parts of the forest, leaving and never returning to bother the humans.
The people then knew the mistake they had made. They welcomed Faelin back as a hero and hung the forest lord's head from the stone arch in the deep woods, deciding that would be the center of a new and better city.
