Skyfire Knight

Only the bravest knights can go toe to toe with a meteor dragon. What kind of madman does it take to ride one of these beasts? The maddest of them all.

Paying no tribute to any gods, these knights seek out meteor dragon nests and stake them out for weeks, waiting for a chance to grab an egg and sneak away with it. This is generally the first hurdle in a Skyfire Knight's quest that ends the journey early, since meteor dragon mothers are not the friendliest creatures. With an egg safe and hidden, the knight will incubate it carefully, keeping it hot while in contact with fresh air at all times. Without fresh air akin to the cliffside nest the egg is meant for, it will die and the process will have to be started all over again. If the knight manages to get through the needy stage, bitey stage, scratchy stage, flappy stage, dive-bombing stage, and finally fire-breathing stage, he has a slim chance of managing to saddle the dragon and teach it to be ridden... As long as he doesn't get thrown off and eaten on the first try.

Persistence pays off, however; Skyfire Knights are unstoppable terrors that scream through the sky, dive-bomb their targets, and fight side by side against anyone who happened to wake up to an ill fate that day. Skyfire Knights are mighty, but they tend to be hermits, taking the company of only their dragon. None can be trusted as far as a Skyfire Knight is concerned; anyone could be out to kill him, his dragon, or both. As far as the dragon is concerned, the knight is the only trustworthy being in the world. Much like birds, they are fiercely loyal and emotionally dependent on their knights, growing grumpy if the knight so much as tries to bathe alone.
